Flaxseed Oil Product Information

The flax plant and it's seeds contain substances which promote good health. Both FlaxSeed and FlaxSeed oil are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial to those suffering from heart disease. ALA is part of a group of substances called Omega-3 fatty acids.

The proper ratio of 1:2 (Omega 3 fatty acids to Omega 6 fatty acids) is essential to good health. The average American diet usually contains a ratio of about 1:20 to 1:50, which means that the average American diet contains way too much Omega 6 and not nearly enough Omega 3.

Flaxseed contains a ratio of about 4:1, so it is an excellent source for the Omega 3 that most of us are lacking. It is often suggested to consume small daily portions of flaxseed oil in order to maintain the proper ratio your body needs in order to maintain good health.

Flax seed capsules are an excellent for the heart because it is the richest source of alpha-linolenic acid. Whether ground or whole, it also contains lignans, which may have antioxidant properties that can help to protect against certain cancers, although this issue remains controversial.

Including Flaxseed Oil in your diet may help to:

Lower cholesterol, help protect against heart disease and control high blood pressure. Flaxseed oil may also have have a protective effect against angina (chest pain) as well as high blood pressure. Recently, at Boston Simmons College, a 5 year study found that flaxseed oil may be helpful in preventing a 2nd heart attack. It's also possible that the oil can help to prevent elevated blood pressure by inhibiting inflammatory reactions that cause poor circulation and artery-hardening plaque.

Counter Inflammation associated with lupus and gout. Omega 3 fatty acids appear to limit the inflammatory reaction associated with lupus and gout. In some cases of lupus, flaxseed oil not only lowers cholesterol (which may be elevated by the disease), but also reduces inflammation in the kidneys, joints and skin. In cases of gout, taking flaxseed oil may lessen sudden swelling and severe joint pain that is a symptom of this condition.

Reduce the risk of cancer. Flaxseed contains lignans, which appear to protect against colon, prostate, breast and perhaps even skin cancers.

Control hemorrhoids, diverticular disorders and even constipation. Flaxseed is also high in soluble fiber, and when ground, can help to ease the passage of stool, which in turn relieves constipation, hemorrhoids and even diverticular disorders.
